Disability Support Programs and Services

The Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) mission is to offer a variety of classes and services designed to facilitate the success of students with disabilities in reaching their educational, personal and vocational goals.

Eligible students who have a verified disability qualify for support services through DSPS. Support services and assistive equipment are offered to enable students to participate as fully as possible in Continuing Education classes and programs. Accommodations are determined with the counselor on an individualized basis, and provision may take a minimum of two weeks or longer. DSPS classes are available for students who desire more individualized and adapted instruction.

DSPS Services are voluntary and confidentiality is maintained.

Students with the following verified disabilities are eligible to receive services at Continuing Education:

  • Learning Disability (LD)
  • Mobility Impairment
  • Acquired Brain Impairment (ABI)
  • Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH)
  • Psychological Disability
  • Visual Impairment
  • Developmentally Delayed Learner
  • Speech Impairment
  • Other/Health Impairment

DSPS may provide the following accommodations to students with a verified disability:

  • Academic, vocational, and disability counseling
  • Community referrals
  • GED and test accommodations (extended time, private room, frequent breaks, etc.)
  • Access technology and equipment (print magnifiers, FM amplification systems, adapted computer equipment and software, ergonomic chairs, books-on-tape, tape recorders, etc.)
  • Learning disabilities assessment
  • DSPS classes
  • Sign language interpreters/real-time captioning for deaf and hard of hearing
  • Registration assistance
  • WorkAbility Program offering vocational exploration and job placement
  • Liaison with faculty and other campus programs
