Salary information is based on hourly, monthly, or annual estimates from the State of California Employment Development Department.
50 hours. Complete in 2 weeks.
After becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant, if you wish to receive certification as a Home Health Aide, you may complete an additional 50 hours of training that includes lecture and skills practice. You will learn:
- Aide and agency role
- Medical and social needs of patients
- Personal care services
- Nutrition
- Cleaning and care of homes
You will be trained to help elderly, convalescent, or disabled persons in their homes instead of a health facility. Home Health Aides are in high demand from licensed home care agencies to provide basic nursing care in private homes or hospice programs under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
Summer Class Schedule
The summer classes are from June 18 to July 12, 2012. All students must attend theory and clinical classes as follows:
Theory Classes
- 6/18, 6/19, 6/22, 6/29, 7/10, 7/12 (6 classes)
- M/T/Th/F 9:00-2:00pm
Clinical Classes
Students are assigned to one group.
Group A
- 6/20 , 6/21, 7/2, 7/3 (4 classes)
- M/T/W/Th 9:00-2:00pm
Group B
- 6/25, 6/26, 7/5, 7/6 (4 classes)
- M/T/Th/F 9:00-2:00pm
Group C
- 6/27, 6/28, 7/9, 7/11 (4 classes)
- M/T/W/Th 9:00-2:00pm
Eligibility
Students must have a current California Nursing Assistant (CNA) license (or have passed both parts of the state licensing exam) to be eligible to attend classes for the Home Health Aide program. If you are eligible to attend, you must complete three required forms prior to enrollment:
- Home Health Aide application
- Confirmation of Tuberculosis Test form
- Medical History and Physical form
Please return completed forms in-person to the Centre City Campus, 1400 Park Blvd., San Diego, Room 201. Student parking permits are required for the Centre City Campus parking lots. Free public parking is available on Park Boulevard and at the Balboa Naval Hospital, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to campus. Forms are reviewed for accuracy and completeness on a first come, first served basis. Provisional acceptance into the class is given when forms are approved and accepted. However, official registration is not completed until the first day of class.
